Description
Monte la Reina Desafiante Verdejo is a white wine that marked a turning point in the history of the Toro appellation. It was one of the first Verdejo wines produced in the appellation, the result of a pioneering commitment to this variety in a region traditionally associated with red wines. Today, Bodegas Monte La Reina is the winery with the largest area of Verdejo planted in the Toro appellation, which demonstrates its extensive knowledge and mastery of the variety.
Made from 100% Verdejo, it is vinified in stainless steel tanks with lees ageing, adding volume, richness and complexity while preserving its freshness. The location of the vineyards and the area’s Atlantic influence contribute to a balanced and expressive aromatic profile.
Visually, it displays straw yellow colour with greenish highlights, clean and bright.
On the nose, it offers great aromatic intensity, with prominent notes of freshly cut hay and fennel, alongside balsamic nuances of mint and anise. Citrus and fruity aromas also emerge, including lime, green apple, banana and pineapple, complemented by a delicate underlying note of white flowers.
On the palate intense, rich and full-bodied, with excellent acidity, balanced, fresh and flavoursome. Lees ageing adds volume and a characteristic subtle bitterness, typical of Verdejo, with a long finish in which citrus and stone-fruit notes re-emerge.
When it comes to food pairing, Monte la Reina Desafiante Verdejo is perfect for goat cheeses, white fish, oily fish, seafood, rice dishes and Mediterranean cuisine. Its pronounced acidity cleanses the palate and enhances flavours, making it a highly versatile white wine at the table.
Monte la Reina Desafiante is a Verdejo with history, identity and character, reflecting the winery’s pioneering commitment to the variety and its dedication to quality within the Toro appellation.
