Description
Monte la Reina Cuvée Privée it is the gentler, more surprising side of Toro. Made with 100% Tinta de Toro grapes harvested at an advanced stage of ripeness, this wine retains the variety’s characteristic power, its deep colour, aromatic intensity and structure, while revealing a smoothness and elegance rarely found in the region.
Its unique personality is shaped by a meticulously controlled winemaking process. It begins with malolactic fermentation in new and used Romanian oak barrels, followed by 14 months of ageing in French oak and Transylvanian oak barrels from Romania, two types of oak that bring balance, complexity and a silky texture that envelops the wine.
Visually, it displays a deep cherry red colour with violet highlights. It is clean and bright, with a deep, opaque appearance and fine, persistent tears on the glass.
On the nose, it reveals a an intense and complex aroma, with notes of ripe red and black fruit preserves, elegant toasted nuances, hints of spice, and subtle notes of pastry and cocoa. A delicate underlying minerality brings freshness and depth. It is reminiscent of Port, with a subtle Sherry-like character.
On the palate, Cuvée Privée is silky, rounded and exceptionally smooth, with sweet, perfectly integrated tannins. Its rich, velvety texture and subtle glyceric character make it surprisingly easy to drink without sacrificing the power and expression of Tinta de Toro. The finish is long and pleasurable, with a delicate fruity and mineral aftertaste.
Ideal pairings include rockfish, meat stews, game birds such as pheasant or partridge, semi-cured cheeses, mushrooms, creamy rice dishes and richly flavoured traditional dishes. Thanks to its smoothness and balance, it is also an excellent choice to accompany chocolate desserts.
Monte la Reina Cuvée Privée it is a premium wine, elegant and full of nuance, perfect for those looking for a different expression of Toro red wine: powerful at heart, yet surprisingly silky, balanced and easy to enjoy.
